Shetty peck, shitty judgement

Acres of newsprint have already been wasted with the Gere peck on Shilpa’s cheek being dissected beyond compare. I am forced to agree with the Shetty lass who rightly accuses of making a mountain out of a mole hill. Why does Gere’s innocent kiss become the reason of violence? I’m just trying to imagine what the scene would have been if Gere had grabbed an AIDS victim from among the crowd the celebrities were addressing and kissed her. Gere would have been celebrated as a hero then, right?

When a Hollywood star kisses a Bollywood starlet on stage, India burns. If he had kissed or hugged an HIV/AIDS victim India would have celebrated the event and accorded Gere a super hero status, and dubbed him a true human and what not. When will our so-called Sainiks and the media learn to stop being hypocrites?

It was not the kiss but the occasion that mattered. It just shows how hollow it was, their AIDS campaign. In a way, you have a point. He should have actually kissed an AIDS patient. That would have been a truly brave thing. That would have made him a true hero.

Am surprised! You mean to say such a thing as a public kiss should have been passed up by our media? What then would happen to the millions and millions of parched souls out there who would be denied their salvation? Does it matter really whether Gere kissed Shetty or a AIDS victim? Me thinks the first is a much less condescending option for the latter would have smacked of soul-killing tokenism.

Vani, the media need to report, not celebrate such frivolous stuff. The thin line gets overlooked always. An innocent Gere peck on Shetty's cheek doesn't have the ammunition to deny salvation to the millions you are talking about. The peck (that asnt even a kiss) instead was just msala for the national and vernacular media. Vani, dont you think we have stories that matter to be reported? Why on earth do we celebrate the Abhi-Ash weddings, the Gere peck and all those things trivial? Convince me.

The propriety of that peck lies in the mind of the beholder. It was more than a peck as Shilpa couldn't bear the weight of it. The lips or hands, only she knows. A kiss can express as many emotions as mankind knows- from lewd to heavenly, this sent sensual vibes, not really warmth. Maybe the Indian audience felt it be it acting for the media or not. Innocent or otherwise, Gere could also given a peck on one among the cheeks of the audience

I am really not an authority to comment on this. But I am of the opinion that newsprint has been wasted unnecessarily when there are so many other things that deserve more of the media's attention.Instead the media go towards sensational(not national)news like the Ash-Abhi wedding.Making a ruckus over a wedding (complete with opinion polls and what not!!!) and that too by a section of society committed towards reaching out to the nation is indeed condemnable.
lucky shilpa, nah? i really realy envy that lady!!! (that is to tell u the truth! ;-))
